4 April 2014: P Band Radar

CO.RI.S.T.A. has completed the activity of research and development aimed at the realization and testing of a multi frequency radar system operating in the P band (ASI Contract I/062/10/0).
The project has been promoted and funded by the Italian Space Agency (go to "News: Radar in VHF and UHF" on the Agency Web site, with the participation of the scientific component of the Institute for Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment of CNR, of the Politecnico of Milan and the University of Trento.
The research activities have led to the realization of a multi-band (150 and 450 MHz) and multi-functionality (imager and sounder) radar demonstrator to be mounted on aerial platforms, and to a series of experimentations supporting the Italian scientific community for the research on Ground Penetrating Radar in space missions dedicated to Solar System exploration and as a means of validation for civil and military applications typical of low-frequency radar.
In fact the combination of low frequency and large band provides the system with the possibility of a variety of applications both civil and military, which range from the revelation of targets hidden by foliage, camouflaged or buried, to forestry applications, to biomass measurement, to archaeological and geological exploration.
